Written by Mona on March 2, 2010 – 8:32 am There IS a Hashing Group in Panama City, Panama!
Yesterday, I hashed for the first time in my life, and it was awesome!
Panama Hash House Harriers‘s run every Monday at 6:00 p.m. They begin each has from a distinct location in Panama City or its surrounding areas (like the Causeway, Albrook, etc.). Normally, they announce each run through the Google / Yahoo groups’ mailing lists. You can join the Panama Hash House Harriers Google Group or Panama Hash House Harriers Yahoo! Group.
So, what is hashing anyways?!?
The Hash House Harriers (abbreviated to HHH, H3, or referred to simply as Hashing) is an international group of non-competitive running, social and drinking clubs. An event organized by a club is known as a Hash or Hash Run, with participants calling themselves Hashers.
Their motto is “A drinking club with a running problem.”
At a Hash, one or more members (Hares) lay a trail, which is then followed by the remainder of the group (the Pack or Hounds). The trail often includes false trails, short cuts, dead ends, and splits. These features are designed to keep the pack together regardless of fitness level or running speed, as front-runners are forced to slow down to find the “true” trail, allowing stragglers to catch up.

As I mentioned, yesterday was my very first time.
The Hash originated at the Guayabera store just off Via Brasil in front of Price Mart. From there, we followed the hare, looping around the block and then running along Via Porras.
From there, as my breathing intensified and my face grew a darker shade of crimson everytime my foot hit the pavement, we jogged (well, some ran) through San Francisco (an “up-and-coming” neighborhood) and up into Carrasquilla (a rougher neighborhood), following the spray-painted trail laid by the hare.
I really enjoyed discovering the streets of Panama City and seeing the dilapitated “cases of yore” in Carasquilla. Despite the “roughness,” when you’re jogging in a pack and give off the impression of being in shape, the emaciated hooligans of Panama City tend to not mess with you!
After about 50 minutes, we arrived at the finishing point, that day’s starting point, and were greeted with ice cold pintas!
Being my first time, I was initiated into the Panama Hash House Harriers … If you wanna know what goes down, then get on your running shoes!!!

Hi there! I just moved down from Atlanta and am looking to get involved with the club! I signed up for the GMail emails but am unsure I’ll understand since my Spanish skills are terrible! Could you shoot me a line with the location if you’re planning to attend tomorrow’s run? Thanks!
Amazing! You must be an SEO wizard since searching for “Panama Hash House Harriers” popped your page first, before http://panamahash.info, our page for Panama Hash House Harriers. It is, obviously, not as well rated as yours.
Cheers!
I am moving to Panama in November 2010 and want to keep hashing. I started in Gainesville, Florida, but mostly hashed with the Antigua H3 (Antigua & Barbuda, Eastern Caribbean). Please let me know how I find out about the hash calendar.
LOL… It’s what I “dedicate my life to”
I also have a site in Spanish http://www.mercadeo-internet.com.
I’m disappointed I missed the last hike! I hope all is well with you and will show up at the Hash very soon!
Hi Smashmouth,
I would suggest joining their Google group at http://groups.google.com/group/panamahash and their Yahoo group at http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/ptyhhh/.
You’ll receive all the necessary updates!
What brings you to Panama?
Saludos!

Hello Mona,
This being Sunday December 5th, I was wondering if there is a hash run tomorrow in Panama City? I´m a visiting hasher and would like to meet up with the local kennel for a run. It would be great if I could find out where and when to meet.
On-on,

I am just finding out about H3 and was told the Hash is every other weekend – opposite my weekend off. I want to clarify because this states meetings on Monday evenings, also when I work. I want to ask for all needed schedule adjustments at one time?
I don’t understand your question… Could you please clarify?!?
In Panama, the hash is run every Monday at 6:00 p.m., and the group often meets on weekends to participate in other activities.
Where will the next hash start from. is it 6:00 pm
thanks
