Written by Mona on April 5, 2010 – 1:10 pm Chance, a film by Abner Benaim (Panama)
I watched Chance, a Panamanian film by Abner Benaim, last night and really liked it! The quality was excellent, the dialogue was funny and it was a hoot to see Power Club, Via España, Multi Plaza, and products from El Rey on the “Silver Screen” (not to mention Torrijos Carter, transvestis from good ole San Felipe, amongst other Panama gems…)!
I speak Spanish, and some of it went over my head. So, if you’re not 100% fluent, I would suggest trying to get a subtitled version. However, it’s hard not to follow the storyline, even if you miss a few words here and there!
Also, I understand that many aspects were exaggerated for comedy’s sake, but if ANYBODY actually treats their employees like that, you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!
Chance, the Synopsis
It only took Toña and Paquita, the maids of the wealthy, prestigious Gonzalez-Dubois family, three days to acheive what a psychoanalyst and thousands of dollars had been able to get Fernando, a successful politician, Gloria his “chic” wife, and Mariví and Marité, their beautiful adolescent daughters who couldn’t imagine their world without the possibility of spending weekends shopping in Miami.
Dialogues that revel in sarcasm and black humor, this comedy gives true meaning to grandma’s ageless advice: Dirty laundry is washed at home.
Chance, the Trailer
Special Appearance by Roberto “Mano de Piedras” Durán

Hey, do you know where I can watch this movie (I am not in panama right now) Is there anywhere in the internet I could watch it and pay for it?
Looking for the movie for my Ipad.
If you have HBO on demand its on there and thats how I was able to watch it. As well its subtitled!
Great movie but I think both the maids and the family were both very rude!
I saw the film on HBO subtitled both in English and spanish but I need to buy for my IPad.
Of the things most “Panama” in the movie. ONe is the father of the family, who is running for president , was being interviewed on the news program at the beginning of the movie. That was Lucy Molinar interviewing him. She was a big-time TV journalist in Panama and is currently the Minister of Education in El Loco Martinelli’s cabinet. Power Club, Costa del Este. San Felipe. Torrijos-Carter. Duran. El abuelo in the casino checking out the woman at the next slot. and the family was so yeye. It was just a silly comedy but I liked being able to see Panama in a movie about Panamanians. I’m in the US and saw it on HBO on Demand like some others. It makes me miss Panama!
Chance has disappeared from HBO on Demand, alas. I would love to see it again. Any ideas?
